The Bachelorette with Emily Maynard 2012 Episode Six Weekly Recap
First of all, why Croatia? It was beautiful and interesting but it just seemed so random. The only reasonable explanation I can come up with is that the producers of the Bachelorette got a great offer from the Croatian tourist board to host the show there and they went for it. Unfortunately, they didn’t show anything too remarkable or interesting about the country that made me want to visit. Hmmm, if you are booking a trip to Croatia after seeing this episode, please explain.

Two Fish Out of Water Looking for Love
The one on one date with Travis made about as much sense at the thought of two fish out of water looking for love in Croatia. The date was called “Looking for Love Beyond the Walls.” It was basically a chance for the two to walk around and have some fun, prolonging the inevitable. No surprises here when Travis did not get the rose. He was a nice guy, but there was not enough chemistry to keep him around.
Shocking Behavior
This episode had its shock moments. There were a few times that I shouted outloud to the TV. I was heard saying, “Nooo! Are you kidding?” ”No way!” ”Seriously!”
For instance, over-confident Ryan going on the “Our World is Our Oyster” one on one date and not coming back with a pearl. Never has there been such an emphasis on the meaning of being a trophy wife. I was shocked that Emily never came out and admitted clearly that she was keeping him around this long because she was physically attracted to him because she had to have known from the beginning that he wouldn’t make a good husband for her or father for Ricki. She could not have kept him any longer because it would not be fair to the nice guys with real potential that remained. It was evident that Ryan believes he is God’s gift to women.
Ryan was shocked that Emily would make the choice to send him home and not keep him longer to see if there is a chance they could have love. Emily was shocked that he didn’t have “a loving family” at the top of his “perfect trophy wife wish list.” I was shocked that Emily did not take this opportunity to teach Ryan something about what being self-confident truly means. I was shocked by the balls this guy showed when he tried to manipulate her into not going through with her decision. Emily kept a lot of emotions inside in those moments when she was explaining to Ryan why she was not giving him a rose. Maybe she didn’t feel it was worth it or she is just simply adept at keeping her opinions to herself. She chose her words wisely and in her impeccable fashion, kept true to her self and her mission to find the right man to be a loving husband and father.
Homage to Disney/Pixar
In true Bachelor/Bachelorette and ABC Network style, the group date was centered around the theme of the movie, Brave, which opened this week. (Now, that is impressive timing!) In a giant commercial for the movie, this segment was a homage to Disney/Pixar. The group watched a pre-screening of the film in a beautiful theater in Croatia. Then the men were asked to don kilts and compete for Emily’s hand just like the characters in the movie. I was a little surprised that they weren’t whisked away on a side trip to Scotland for this date, but the producers did a fine job of bringing Scotland on location for this shoot and creating their own Highland Games.
The film, Brave, could have been written for The Bachelorette, which deals with the similar themes of choosing one’s own fate while finding love on life’s journey and having suitors compete to win the heart of a fair maiden. But I think that would have required much more planning than I believe Disney/Pixar and ABC actually did here.
My favorite part was watching the men change into their kilts!
The Not-so-final Rose Ceremony
In true Bachelor-ette fashion, and as Chris Harrison put so eloquently, “There are no rules here.” Emily tested that theory as she paused before giving “the final rose.” She made me yell at the TV again because I thought she was going to send the last two guys home, which would be a surprise since John just opened up and poor Doug is hanging on so tightly. I was pretty much ready to walk away in disgust and get a snack from the kitchen, when in walks Chris Harrison with a second “final rose.”
Big sigh of relief! You got me Emily and The Bachelorette! I’ll be coming back for more!
