London is Calling

This week The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard, and her suitors toured London, England.  It was sweet seeing the young single mom sightseeing with her daughter, Ricki.  This show is unique because Emily Maynard has her daughter with her on her journey as she seeks romance, love and marriage.

The ten remaining gentlemen met Chris Harrison at Trafalgar Square and he warned them to be serious because Emily is looking for a husband. Yes, he said, “husband – that is where this is leading, gentlemen.”

“London is romantic – it’s a beautiful backdrop for Emily to develop a relationship with me.”

“If there is ever a time to step it up – it is this week!”

Love Takes No Prisoners

This is Sean’s first one on one date with Emily, who he believes is the “ideal woman for him.”

After sightseeing all around London on their own private Double Decker bus and taking the standard tourist pictures in the standard cheesy poses at Buckingham Palace and proclaiming undying love at the famous Speaker’s Corner, Sean and Emily settle in for a romantic dinner in the Tower of London.  And they really hit it off!

Meanwhile, we are treated to the backstage drama of the gentlemen in waiting. The competitors are bagging on having to be on a group date. Kalon’s negative comments are starting to surface.  He talks down to the other guys again about parenthood and dating a single mom.

A Rose by Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet

It’s no surprise when Kalon says it smells “like shit.” And he complains about being on another group date.

Kalon, Arie, Doug, Ryan, Chris, Travis, John and Alejandro realized they were going to be acting and performing scenes from Romeo and Juliet in public at Strattford von Avon – the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

Emily just wanted them to have fun and not take themselves too seriously – she would like them to show her that they can just be a big kid at times.   She noticed how serious some of the men were being and she said, “Lighten up Kalon!”

Ryan repeats the kissing scene until he "gets it right!"

Off With His Head!

The men have brought it to Emily’s attention that Kalon had been speaking poorly of Princess Ricki.  Emily felt betrayed and outraged. Since Emily is the Queen in this show, and she is in England, perhaps the power had gone to her head a little bit.  She had no problem exerting her authority when she found out that one of the men committed treason.  After the culprit was confronted and admitted to his crime, she simply stated his fate, “Get the f*&% out!”

Kalon did try to explain, but Emily wouldn’t hear it.  She was disappointed that he was so closed minded especially when he had been raised by a single mom himself.

She has lost faith in all of the men.  Her trust has been shaken.  Emily said, “I want someone who is willing to fight for me and my daughter.”

High Tea in the Afternoon

On this one on one date, Jef and Emily go to a traditional English afternoon tea.  What was supposed to be a surprise for Jef turns out to be surprising for both of them.  They have a special guest on the date, an etiquette teacher.  (Note to self:  You can’t be romantic when someone is correcting your every move.)

The couple exit stage left and head to the nearest pub.  Jeff scored big with Emily when he ordered a few pints and some fish and chips.  They both seemed more comfortable and have a nice time.  Despite the fact that Emily has lost her voice, she still manages to communicate with her minimal facial expressions and pleasantries.  The couple had a nice time, but I do not think it was incredibly romantic.

Jef came clean about the “baggage” issue and explained that he was the one who was there when Kalon called Ricki baggage.  He told Emily that he believes that Ricki is more like designer luggage!  Emily liked that analogy.

Butterflies in My Heart

Jef received the rose after Emily said that he gives her butterflies.  But not butterflies in her stomach . . . butterflies in her heart.  She said that she never felt that way before.

At the rose ceremony, Emily seemed somewhat unsure of who she was going to keep around.  There were six roses to give out. Since Jef and Sean already had a rose that meant that only one man would be going home.  Any guesses on whom that would be?

Sadly, of the ten bachelors left, I think it is obvious which one had not won Queen Emily’s graces. Alejandro was the one to be banished.  And now there are nine.
