The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch Spring 2018

What do you think of when you think of spring? As a Southern California resident, many things come to mind but one that is always on the top of the list and a must do is to visit The Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch.

For many years, many people have passed the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California while driving along the 5 freeway whenever going to and from San Diego and Los Angeles or Orange County. Due to the growth of businesses in the area, you cannot actually see the flower fields anymore, so, now you actually have to stop and take the time to really get out to enjoy the Ranunculus flowers up close and personal.

This year, the flower fields will be open from March 1st through May 13th with each separate row or two in bloom at a time. You may find only one or two sections in full bloom during your visit. Remember, if you go towards the end, there is no promise of how much “bloom” is left so I personally recommend visiting sometime during the first few weeks.

It is always relaxing just walking through the rows and rows of flowers. Some of my favorite photos of my daughter when she was younger were taken amongst the flowers. We would get her dressed up in her Easter dress and take some spring photos of the flowers, ocean, and windmill in the background.

If you plan to visit, be sure to bring your camera and wear comfortable walking shoes (closed-toe suggested) and prepare for walking in dust and dirt and up slight hills or you can choose to take a wagon ride for a very inexpensive fee.

Outside of the fields you can purchase fresh strawberries from a nearby strawberry field, shop at premium outlets, and enjoy lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. There are local hotels nearby that you can make a staycation of the trip.

Even though the flower fields are open for just a few weeks, they have activities fit for people of all ages. They have Girl Scout Days, Flower Arrangement Lessons, Kids Days, Art Classes & Workshops, Sunset Wine Tastings, Musical Entertainment, Specialty Farm to Table Dinners and so much more. Be sure to take a look at their calendar to choose a day that would be a great fit for you to enjoy.
