Today California lost a true TV legend in Huell Howser, best known for PBS’ California Gold. He will truly be missed.
Whenever we heard Huell Howser’s distinctive folksy voice on tv, we had to stop and watch and pay attention to where he was visiting. We watched him take the time to get to know the locals and history of even the most obscure places of California. He could always find the true “gold” of any place he visited.
Many Californians will say that they learned more about California history by watching his travel show than what they remember learning in the classroom.
Elise of Elise’s Ramblings shared this video of Huell Howser singing “California, Here I Come” in her blog tribute to Huell Howser:
What are some of your memories of Huell Howser? Did you ever visit a place that he recommended?
