Share your brief bio:
SoCal Field Trips is a lifestyle travel blog dedicated to active families who enjoy adventuring out of the home and into the world of hands-on learning throughout Southern California and beyond. “Field Trips” is our second name!

Whether exploring the beautiful landscape of Newport Beach’s Back Bay to learning about the history of the Berlin Wall at The Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, we are dedicated to introducing our children to the vast array of fun and exciting learning opportunities.

Tell us a little about your family.
I have been married to my wonderful husband of 13 years named Andrew and we have two children together. A boy, 9 and a girl, 6. AKA Field Trip Boy and Field Trip Girl on the blog.

How do you prioritize time between your family and your blog?
It is super hard! I don’t quite have an answer for that yet. I am still learning how to find the right balance for our family with me working from home as a blogger. This year I bought a blogger calendar and hope that it will help me get more organized so I have more time for my family.

How do you relax?
I like to go to the gym and spend time with my husband on a date.

When did you start your blog?
December 2013.

Why did you start blogging?
To share about all the exciting field trips I was planning for homeschoolers at the time and the outings I did with my own family.

How did you choose your blog name?
I selected the name SoCal Field Trips for my blog, because it was the location in which I was planning field trips for homeschoolers at the time. Now it is quite ironic!

What keeps you motivated and inspired to blog?
Knowing that I make a difference in people’s lives and their education by sharing about my own travels and adventures with my family.

Where do you see your blog and yourself in 5 years?
I would like to have a more national blog audience in the future. We will see where that vision takes me.

Biggest life lesson learned since blogging?
Pace yourself!

What is your secret to success?
Try hard and keep on trying! If you make a mistake, learn from it and try again. Keep on truckin!

What do you wish someone would have told you when you first started blogging?
How to blog. It took me quite a while to learn how to start a blog, write great content, build my social media platforms, etc. I wish there was a “Learn How To Blog” Starter Course.

All bloggers encounter writer’s block. How do you get past this?
I have to take a few days off and then come back again with a new perspective and energy.

What has been your sweetest success story?
How much the homeschool community has embraced my blog and shared my content with the community.

What has been your most popular posts?
Goodyear Blimp

Who are some of your favorite California bloggers that inspire you and that you enjoy reading?
Jill Parkins w/ Sandy Toes & Popsicles
Mary Tran w/ Let’s Play OC
Carolyn West w/ This Talk Aint Cheap
Made with Happy
Tiny Oranges

How long have you lived in California?
My entire life.

Where is your favorite relaxation location in California?
Granite Bay, California

Do you belong to any other social media networks to promote your blog?
Triberr.com
Several social media sharing groups on Facebook.

Have you attended any social media conferences? If so, which ones?
Collective Bias On-The-Road
SITS
ConnectHer
Disney Social Media Moms Conference On-The-Road 2015

What was the most helpful thing that you have learned from attending a conference?
The basics of SEO at the Collective Bias conference in 2015.

Share your favorite quote or inspirational thought:
Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Tell us something that most people would be surprised to learn about you.
Before I was a blogger, I was a professional singer and released three Christian music albums.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
All good here!

Do you send out a monthly newsletter? How can we get on your mailing list if we are interested in more information?
