The Bachelorette: Emily Maynard, 26
Season Firsts: First single mom (of six-year-old, Ricki,) first episode filmed at the hometown of the bachelor/ette, and first helicopter arrival on first impression night.
Emily meets the twenty-five bachelors in her home town of Charlotte, NC at a fairy-tale mansion. Dressed in a magical sparkling champagne gown, she lit up the evening with her Southern charm and elegant style.
The gentleman suitors lined up and entered one by one, each hoping to make the best and most lasting first impression. All handsome and charming, only one actually introduced himself as Prince Charming, holding a glass slipper on a velvet pillow.
“I believe in love, and in fabulous shoes!” Said Emily as she tried on the glass shoe. A perfect fit. Very good first impression, I’d say!
“Welcome to Charlotte, Y’all have blown me away!” I have a feeling we’ll hear her say that a lot! And they were pretty impressive.
They tried so hard to impress with their gifts and creative one liners. From bobble heads and letters from and pictures of their kids, dressing up as a grandma, taking care of an ostrich egg, riding in on a skateboard, playing music and dancing, arriving on a helicopter, to simple romantic gestures like offering Emily an arm and handing her a drink.
Parenting will be a focus on this season for sure. Some of the men are single dads. Emily wants to have more children. The love of children and family will be at the forefront of this season’s theme. It makes me wonder how much more serious the season will be than it has ever been. Emily is choosing a father figure for her daughter as well as hoping to find love (for the third time.) Cue the heart-wrenching music, the drama is in the air!
Some of the guys are normal, stand up men, who have regular jobs and could probably make a great first impression in a small group. I’ll be happy to see some of these guys stick around. But my guess is the chances are slim for – – -the Lumber Tradesman, the Body Builder, and the other plain Joe’s.
“Helicopter Guy” dubbed by the other men, is set up to be hated by everyone! But he is really nice. A little full of himself, overly confident, but not too bad (on the eyes.) Surely he will stay around for a bit.
“Hot Race Car Guy” totally worried that he would scare her off by the fact that he has the same profession as her first love who passed away, is honest and open about it, so that’s a plus!
“Single Dad” Doug, gets the first impression rose. Awe! The letter from his son, Sleepless in Seattle, worked!
Here are the eighteen that got a rose:
Ryan (Sign Guy)
Kalon (Helicopter Guy)
Ari (Race Car Guy)
Jef (Water Guy)
Michael (Long Hair Guy)
Stevie (Bug Eye Guy)
Tony (Prince Charming)
The final rose tonight,
Travis (The Egg Guy)!
What a relief! I thought he was going to drop that egg on his way to accept the rose!
The gentlemen who did not get roses, “Six Kid Dad”, “Six Pack Abs”, “Token Minority Guy” and a few others who didn’t even make an impression on this viewer, left with a hug and a smile holding their heads up high for Emily. Their part of the fairy-tale over, some shed a few tears and a few kind words for the bachelorette and the experience.
“Here is to finding love in Charlotte!”
What do you think? Of the 19 men left standing tonight, who do you think would get your first impression rose?
